08.05.2014: BSNL Goes Bullish For Enterprise Biz

Government-owned telco Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is gearing up to increase the revenue from the enterprise business to as much as 25 percent.

"We would be competing very strongly with the private players in the enterprise space. Our focus is definitely Government but there is business in the enterprise space and we feel that whatever services private operators offer, whatever SLA's [Service Level Agreements} private operators offer, we can match that," says Anupam Shrivastava, Director (Consumer Mobility) and CMD Designate, BSNL. He was a speaker at Light Reading India's 4G World India.

However, he agreed that the company's enterprise business is at a nascent stage and it required a completely different strategy to make inroads in this segment. "I feel that synergy with our sister company, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited is prime because we do not have network in two metropolitan cities of Delhi and Mumbai. Also I would say that we have to do away with some of the legacy mindset. We have to approach the enterprise segment in a different manner," elaborates Shrivastava.

At the end of the financial year 2012 enterprise was contributing just Rs 1317.55 crores against revenue of 27933.50 crores.
BSNL has been slightly behind private telcos in approaching the enterprise business. It is only recently that the company decided to aggressively get business from the enterprise segment. BSNL recently partnered with Dimension Data, a global ICT solutions and services provider to launch their Enterprise Cloud Services in India.

Some of the private telcos like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Communications have taken the lead in getting the enterprise business.
