BSNL to shutdown MMS from November 1

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) to shut-down the multimedia messaging services (MMS) platform under BSNL Network from November 1.

With the advent of Whatsapp and its increasing popularity, BSNL was finding it difficult to gain any grip on MMS services. MMS communication technology is higher priced than traditional SMS and is not being supported by all devices. "Due to increasing use of Whatsapp, Hike and many such networking services, consumers have stopped using the traditional ones," said Ganesh Chandra Pandey, chief general manager, Madhya Pradesh.

With a consumer base of around 3 lakh BSNL users in city, and 26 lakh across the state BSNL is now trying to gel itself with the newer technology. "It is the need of the hour. Today by using Whatsapp one can send videos, audios across the world. Internet knows no boundary," he added.
