KOLKATA: The Prime Minister's Office wants the Telecom Commission to swiftly resolve all cost-related differences holding up the rollout of mobile networks in India's left-wing extremist hotbeds, especially in the aftermath of a recent naxal attack in Chattisgarh's Bastar region in which 15 CRPF jawans were reportedly killed.
The Telecom Commission is the highest-decision making body in the communications ministry.
Following the discussions, it was decided that Telecom Commission would either directly look into USOF's reservations on the higher cost projection by BSNL or refer the matter to the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), which had originally cleared the project cost of rolling out mobile networks in naxal-infested regions, according the minutes of the meeting seen by ET.
It was also decided that BSNL would be asked to "immediately operationalise mobile networks in 351 locations ..
